Nairobi Railways Central – Its all in the details

A Celebration of Kenya’s Local Culture

The project’s concept arose from growing concerns regarding the rapid growth of Nairobi City thus the need to start thinking beyond city boundaries. Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC), in conjunction with the Nairobi City County Government (NCCG), contracted Imara Baobab Kenya to design the central parking lot to fill the gap of lack of parking centers in the central business district. The parking lot is surrounded by shops and a market plaza. It will be made of simple materials in their raw from and then cladding in the prefabricated material quite predominant within the juakali sector on the outside. The aesthetic expression differs depending on the distance of the viewer. From afar, the large patterns are the prevailing experience, while it becomes more intricate in detailing when experienced up close.
